The Johannesburg Civic Theatre was established in 1962, creating a landmark in the province. In the 1980’s the building itself was given a massive face lift turning it into a beautiful landmark in the middle of Braamfontein Hill. In 2000 the Joburg Civic theatre was corporatized turning it into a municipal entity in Joburg.

In the year 2009 the theatre morphed into a street wise and accessible theatre which kids and parents alike could enjoy. Many hit shows have been performed at the Johannesburg Civic theatre since then, including Mozart’s Magic Flute, Broadway Musicals such as Chicago, We will Rock you, Spamalot and many more.

The theatre also hosts a full season of fantastical Pantomime productions, one of the most popular shows in South Africa to date which kids of all ages love to bits.

The Joburg theatre is one of South Africa’s most respected community development projects. We offer a range of group booking options should you wish to bring a bunch of kids to the theatre for birthday parties or other. Most performances offer a discount of up to 10% for group bookings so keep a look out for the next great kiddies show.
