Half of US adults are using social networks
According to a survey published in August 2011, by the Pew Research Center’s Internet and American life Project, 65% of adult Internet users in the United States use social networks, equating to 50% of the entire US adult population. This is a significant increase on the 8% of Internet users that used social networks in 2005.
Social networking sites, such as Facebook, Myspace and LinkedIn are increasingly becoming a significant part of online life.

The survey of 2 277 US adults, conducted between April 26 and May 22, has a margin of error of approximately 2.4 percentage points.
